EC2 + Cherokee + WordPress = Happiness (Intro)

I had a fun time getting my blog moved over to an Amazon EC2 Micro instance. I am very impressed with the whole of what is Amazon Web Services.
I started out managing the EC2 instance and EBS volume using ElasticFox plugin for Firefox which I had to modify the source and rebuild the extension to allow for creation of an EC2 T1.Micro instance but soon discovered the free account on Rightscale.com which I really love as it allows me to SSH remotely via Rightscale’s web interface to my EC2 instance. Rightscale has a ton of other great features as well.
I’ll think about a good way to present all this information and some more details when I get some inspiration/time and come back to post Part 1 of this article.
Netherlands Heading to World Cup Final for first time since 1978
I am a proud Dutchman. Holland will be in the World Cup Finals on Sunday against Spain. Was hoping for a Germany – Netherlands final but I’ll take what I can get.
Let’s hope this is finally the Netherlands time to win. Go Oranje!
StuckInCustoms – Amazing HDR Photography and Resource
As part of this blog I will be sharing some sites that I visit frequently.
One such site is stuckincustoms.com by gifted artist Trey Ratcliff.
Trey specializes in HDR photography and travels all around the world capturing fantastic images. He tries his best to post one great photo every day. I love going to his site to get inspired when I’m feeling a little blue. His site is also a great resource for HDR tutorials and reviews of camera gear and software that one would use to achieve HDR photos.
Don’t miss out on his coupons for various products that he has reviewed.
Here is one beautiful shot of his that is now available as a print from his site:
Testing out Windows Live Writer Beta
I was installing the new Windows Live Essentials Beta this morning and used the “Choose the programs you want” installer. During the install process it asked what Live Essentials apps I wanted to install. My intention was to just install the new Live Sync and also the new Photo Gallery (want to play around with the new photostitch MS has) apps.
While reading what each of the Live Essentials apps do, I noticed Live Writer. Turns out I can create blog entries on my WordPress install with it. So here I am trying it for the first time.
I’ll hopefully come back to this and report my findings and comparison of using the web based WordPress editor and using the Live Writer editor.
This also happens to be my first blog post.
UPDATE: 2011-03-18
I ended up just sticking with using the built-in editor in WordPress. Does the job just fine and who really needs another app installed on their computer. Long live the cloud!
